Rapper Cardi B has become the first woman to bag consecutive No. 1 debuts on Billboard‘s Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Cardi’s latest single “Up” debuted atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart dated February 20. “Up” became her second consecutive No. 1 debut on the list after “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, bowed at the top spot last year August.
“Up” is also Cardi’s sixth No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
“Up” also debuted at No. 2 on the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart, earning the rapper the ninth Top 10 of her career.
“Just landed and my wifi back poppin. I want to say thank you to all my fans and supporters this is BIG for me,” Cardi tweeted. “I wanted to beat my last solo single number & I over succeeded. First time a female rapper debut top 5 since Lauren. This is pop girl shit but I’m not pop.”
The track is expected to feature on Cardi’s as-yet untitled sophomore album.
“Up” is also the highest debut by a solo female rapper on the Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill‘s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” debuted at No. 1 in 1998.
